「供需」意指供应与需求，一般认为供需是市场经济主要的推动力，一方面商品的价格透过供需的关系来决定，另一方面，商品供需数量的消长变化，也受到商品价格因素的影响。因为货品供给数量如果超过需求，自然导致价格的下跌，如此再回过头来影响生产的意愿，使得货品的供应来源减少，此时需求量如又上升，而且需求超过供给时，价格将又会上扬，如此循环反覆，是经济学上所谓的「供需法则」。从自由经济理论的观点而言，供需会自然趋向平衡的调整，但这要有事实为根据，预估的数量与实际需要必然有出入，若待需要量减低，货品滞销时再来调整，生产机构将不免蒙受损失。
