现在大多数国家通用的历法，通称阳历，也叫格里历。一年365天，分为十二个月，大月(一、三、五、七、八、十、十二)三十一天，小月(四、六、九、十一)三十天，二月二十八天。又因地球绕太阳一周实际为365.24219天(太阳年)，所以每四百年中有九十七个闰年；闰年在二月末加一天，全年是366天。闰年的计算法是：公元年数被4除尽的是闰年，但逢百之年只有能被400除尽的才是闰年。纪元是从传说的 耶稣 生年算起。
