解释一种天然矿物纤维。可分为蛇纹石石棉和角闪石石棉。多为白色、灰色或绿色，具丝绢光泽。纤维柔软、耐高温及酸硷，是热和电的绝缘体。纤维长的可以纺织成石棉布，供做防护用品；纤维短的可以和水泥混合，做成建筑材料。石棉对人体的肺有害，久曝其中，易导致石棉沉着病。也称为「不灰木」、「不尽木」、「不烬木」、「石绒」。
